Signing of Comprehensive Partnership Agreement for Overseas Technical Cooperation between NSENGI and Kitakyushu City

NIPPON STEEL & SUMIKIN ENGINEERING CO., Ltd (NSENGI) is pleased to announce that on March 19th, 2015, NSENGI and the City of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Japan (Kitakyushu City) executed a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement to collaborate in a overseas technical cooperation venture to eradicate global energy and environmental issues. This collaboration agreement is NSENGI's first to sign with any local government body.

Increasing waste generation, green-house gas emission, and other environmental risks arising from rapid economic growth are serious and imminent threats in Asia today. NSENGI's waste treatment and recycling, soil and groundwater remediation, energy conservation, and green-house gas reduction technologies contribute to the realization and further establishment of a low carbon and material recovery society. Additionally, NSENGI has proactively applied its technologies and know-how overseas, accumulated from numerous management and execution of projects.

Kitakyushu City, with its innovative methodologies, has a history of overcoming one of Japan's most severe environmental downfalls which includes air pollution and water contamination, left behind by Japan's rapid economic growth. The city has established the 'Kitakyushu Asian Center for Low Carbon Society' to assist cities facing similar waste/recycling, water/sewage, and energy management problems. Kitakyushu City not only provides solutions to independent issues, but rather provides total Green City solutions by incorporating community development into its cooperation repertoire. Kitakyushu City's exhibition as an international leader of environmental management has marked the city as Asia's first 'Green Growth Model City' under OECD's Green City Program.

Through this Comprehensive Partnership Agreement, NSENGI hopes to contribute further to the realization of Asia's low carbon and material recovery society, namely by increasing waste and energy related project incubation and technology exportation in a conjoined collaboration between NSENGI's technology and project management, and Kitakyushu City's strong Asian network and know-how on Green City development.

Collaboration Menu Both NSENGI and Kitakyushu City (Parties) will proactively share knowledge including environment technologies and local information in a shared attempt to incubate new projects and effective export of technology to Asian countries. The Kitakyushu Asian Center for Low Carbon Society will assist NSENGI in its project phase to its project management phase. Both Parties will determine separate contact persons for effective and smooth collaboration. In order to broaden and deepen environmental and energy businesses overseas, both Parties will investigate and research potential novel business models and total solution packages for exports.
