Nippon Steel Engineering Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Shinichi Fujiwara; Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter, "Nippon Steel Engineering") has completed the Funabashi Works No. 2 Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL) Renovation Project for Nippon Steel Coated Sheet Corporation (President and Representative Director: Seiji Hosokai; Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter, "NISC").
This project was conducted to fully revamp the No. 2 CGL at NISC's Funabashi Works and upgrade production facilities with the aim of enhancing supply capabilities to meet the growing demand for SGLTM* in eastern Japan. In this project, Nippon Steel Engineering was responsible for the design, fabrication, commissioning of galvanizing equipment, a furnace, and other new and modified equipment. With the latest revamping , the No. 2 CGL has been upgraded to a state-of-the-art production line complete with a coating weight control function and an equipment operation monitoring system that with data collection and analysis utilizing IoT technology.
Nippon Steel Engineering will continue to support its customers' stable, high-value-added product production by providing optimal engineering solutions based on years of experience and expertise in the design, fabrication, and installation of steel plate and sheet processing lines.
*SGLTM is the trademark for a next-generation GALVALUMETM steel sheet developed and launched in 2013 by NISC. SGL achieves enhanced corrosion resistance with the addition of magnesium (Mg) to conventional GALVALUME steel sheets. It exhibits great corrosion inhibiting properties particularly at cut ends and in scratches, where corrosion easily occurs. Even in a severe corrosive environment, SGL demonstrates outstanding corrosion resistance that surpasses that of GALVALUME steel sheets, and it is being widely used primarily as metal roofs and exterior walls.
