NIPPON STEEL ENGINEERING CO., LTD. is advancing low-cost coal reforming technology and its commercialization in order to enable the utilization of low-grade coal as a fuel for electricity generation.

NIPPON STEEL ENGINEERING CO., LTD. manufactures high-quality modified coal by means of reforming technology (improvement of calorific value and combustion performance, and control of spontaneous combustibility), in order to enable low-grade coal—which has high moisture content, low calorific value and high spontaneous combustibility —to be utilized as a fuel for electricity generation in Japan. Quality improvements and manufacturing cost reductions in the reforming of coal are achieved by optimization of drying, pyrolysis, and briquetting processes.
