Energy-Saving CO₂ Absorption Process (ESCAP™)

ESCAP™ is an energy-saving CO₂ absorption process that enables the separation and recovery of high-purity CO₂ from gases including CO₂, using significantly reduced amounts of energy.
ESCAP™ achieves a greater than 40% reduction in the level of heat consumption required for the separation and recovery of CO2 compared to conventional technology. This enables the production of high-purity CO2 from source gases with high levels of impurities, for applications including food use.
In addition to food use, this technology is suitable for making chemical raw materials, removal of CO2 in chemical processes, EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery), and CCS (Carbon Capture & Storage).
It is based on an energy-saving carbon dioxide recovery technology developed under the NEDO-sponsored research project COURSE50 (CO2 Ultimate Reduction in the Steelmaking process by innovative technology for cool Earth 50), commercialized for industrial application with the addition of NIPPON STEEL ENGINEERING CO., LTD. proprietary technology.
