Direct Melting System

Proven Waste Gasification System with world largest commercial references ? the Direct Melting System (DMS), Energy and Material Recovery from Waste

The Direct Melting System (DMS) is a proven waste gasification technology with world largest commercial references that enables the recovery of energy and material in one system. Its main features are as follows.

1. Waste Flexibility
Different from other gasification systems, DMS ? a proven waste gasification technology ? is capable of processing various kinds of waste simultaneously, without any pre-treatment. Waste is directly charged into the gasifier and produces syngas and recyclables (slag and metal). Various types of waste, such as sewage sludge, landfill reclamation waste, incinerator bottom ash, clinical waste, waste tires, and asbestos can be processed with MSW and RDF with no pre-treatment.

2. Material Recovery from Waste without any Post-treatment
DMS can produce high-quality slag and metal (completely inert), and these products can be recycled in the market without any post-treatment, such as aging. The slag produced is mainly utilized for secondary materials, such as concrete blocks and asphalt paving. In addition, further applications have recently been developed, mainly for fertilizers, marine blocks, and other agricultural uses, as the slag quality is almost the same as that of natural sand. The metal is mainly recycled as scrap for steel production and as counterweights for construction machinery. As a result, this gasification technology has the potential to achieve a "Zero Waste" concept and to contribute to the "Circular Society".

3. Reliable System
Long-term experience since 1979 has resulted in gasification technology that is proven and reliable. NIPPON STEEL ENGINEERING CO., LTD. works not only for EPC contractors of this gasification technology, but also for Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of the plants installed. R&D activity related to this gasification technology has been continuously conducted for further optimization. This cycle (EPC, Operation, Maintenance, R&D) results in gasification technology that is increasingly proven and reliable, which is one of its advantages.
