PFI Project
This PFI (private finance initiative) project was undertaken to improve the Central Government Office Building No. 7, which houses the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Board of Audit of Japan. The BTO (build-transfer-operate) scheme is used for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the building for a 15-year period, as well as associated private facilities. The total floor area of the building is 230,000m₂.

The base isolation U-shaped damper is a new steel damper fabricated from high-quality rolled steel (SN940B). Some of its excellent characteristics include high quality, high level of design freedom, nonorientation, low cost, and ease of inspection.

UBB™ (Unbonded Brace)
UBB™ is a structural brace element consisting of a steel core plate which is restrained by mortar and steel tube.
A membrane called the unbonding material, located between the mortar and the core plate, ensures that axial forces in the core plate do not transfer to the mortar and the steel tube.
This ingenious combination of components produces stable and symmetric tension-compression hysteretic behavior.

Kakuta Bridge™
Kakuta Bridge™, with maximum span length of 16 meters, is a steel deck slab bridge using steel square tubes and steel pipes. The main purposes of development of this bridge are to cut the cost of construction and to shorten the construction period. As the square tubing used for the bridge is very stiff and light in weight, it permits reduction of the girder height and dead load compared to ordinary steel bridges. The bridge installation work can be carried out even in confined working spaces.
